WTF is Croap? And what is the difference with a Shaving Soap or Shaving Cream?

WTF is Croap? En wat is het verschil met een scheerzeep of scheercrème?

WTF is Croap! Just when you are getting familiar with our special Shaving Soaps or creams, they introduce another type of soap? No. Croap is actually a distortion for a soft shaving soap. In America, they call it: Hair Cream + soap = croap. You might already be shaving with a croap without knowing it. Let's give this type of Shaving Soap a stage.

What is the difference between 'croap' and hard Shaving Soaps?

Traditional wet Shaving. Especially if you are a fan of the real Soaps. Hopefully, we have managed to excite you (at the time) to treat yourself with a Shaving Soap with natural ingredients. And hopefully also with a classic Safety Razor. Old school like Grandpa and maybe even your father still stood and was driven in front of the mirror.

The Croap belongs in the list of Shaving Soaps with which you use a shaving brush. This type of Shaving Soap is, just like the hard soap, also packed in a bowl. This allows you to easily brush the soap out of the bowl by heating the brush with hot water and whip it into foam..

Croap is between a cream and a Hard Shaving Soap. Relatively soft, therefore. This makes it easier to mix with the warm water in the brush. Besides these 2 Soaps, there is also a soft Shaving Cream. The properties of the 3 types set out below:

  • Croap – A relatively malleable substance that is therefore easy to shape and quickly mixes with the shaving brush with warm water. The Soft Shaving Soap foams just a bit easier than the hard variant. You might use more of this type of soap than the hard Shaving Soaps, so it will run out a bit faster. Croap contains slightly more fragrance components than the harder variant.
  • Hard Shaving Soap – Is not malleable and harder in composition but lasts longer than a croap. It requires more friction to produce enough foam. But once whipped up, it's one of the oldest methods of traditional shaving experience with mainly soft scent notes. Most hard Soaps come from France and Great Britain. The softer variants, like the Croap, mainly originate from Italy.
  • Shaving Cream - A Shaving Cream is a softer substance than a Shaving Soap or croap and comes in various types. A Shaving Cream is therefore also a bit easier to foam and extra suitable for beginners. It can even be applied directly to the Face with fingers. Most Shaving Creams are in pots like the Shaving Soap, but they also come in tubes. The scent of Shaving Creams is often sharper than that of traditional Shaving Soaps and croaps.

Everyone, of course, has their preferences. We try to warm you up to try a croap if you haven't used one before and add it to your shaving arsenal. You probably also switched from environmentally unfriendly cans to real artisanal work at some point.

What are our favorite croaps?

Let's introduce you to a few croaps that we, not entirely coincidentally, have in our Collection and that have a large fan base.

ABBATE Y LA MANTIA Shaving Soap - Krokos

Abbate Y La Mantia - Krokos

Speaking of spicy crème de la crème. This Krokos is the masterpiece of Abbate Y La Mantia. A soap was created when this cosmetics house from Tuscany promoted saffron as the main player. Krokos is not a Shaving Soap with saffron, but soap artisanally produced from saffron. It is actually a saponified saffron, 100% organic and vegetarian. The soap has a rich scent of saffron and provides a refined Grooming of the skin.

The distinguished Abbate A La Mantia also grows their own saffron. This precious red spice comes from the saffron crocus. This relatively rare crocus is a flower that blooms only eight days a year. To obtain saffron, you must separate the stigmas from the flower.

This exercise is performed entirely by hand. To get 1 gram of saffron, you need no less than one hundred and fifty saffron crocuses, and that is why saffron is also called the 'red Gold'. Saffron is an antioxidant, has medicinal properties, restores skin cells, is suitable for all skin types, and activates metabolism.

Once you run the shaving brush through this Krokos, you are actually spoiled for the rest of your life.
