Beard Dye
If you are among the men who can grow a good Beard, we would like to congratulate you. Not all men are blessed with a good Beard. But sometimes that beautiful full Beard turns gray or takes on a reddish tint. It looks somewhat peculiar if your eyebrows and hairstyle have a completely different Colour. That's why Beard Dye was created.
Beard Dye ensures that your facial hair can have the same Colour and often takes years off your appearance. And the best part? It's not noticeable, looks healthy, appears natural, and doesn't cost much. Do we need to say more? But before you really get started, it's good to know if Beard Dye is really for you. In our article Using Beard Dye: Do or Don't? we delve deeper into the pros and cons.
What is Beard Dye?
Simply put, it's dye for your Beard, but you probably already figured that out. Just like the woman who goes to the hairdresser as a blonde and comes back as a brunette, you can do this for your Beard. Beard Dye is full of colorants that bind to your beard hairs. These colorants will mask gray hairs, tackle reddish colors, and make your Beard appear fuller and more even.
You can choose between permanent Beard Dye (stays in your Beard for a very long time, so prepare for regrowth) and semi-permanent Beard Dye. This fades slowly, and therefore your Beard will need to be dyed again approximately every 8 weeks.
Can everyone use Beard Dye?
Anyone with a Beard can use Beard Dye. Just make sure your Beard is longer than 2.5cm. Longer hairs provide more grip and binding, allowing the dye to adhere better. If your beard hairs are too short, the result will be much less because the dye will struggle to bind to the short hairs. So let it grow beyond 2.5cm if you really want to see results!
Why dye your Beard?
Everyone has their own reasons for this, of course. However, it is most popular among men with a gray Beard, a reddish Beard, or a less even Beard. Masking your gray Beard naturally makes you look much younger. Men with a reddish Beard often don't have reddish Hair, and therefore it sometimes doesn't look like a whole when you look at their hairstyle and eyebrows. And suppose you have a good Beard with thinner spots here and there? In that case, Beard Dye is also ideal. Your Beard becomes (often) a bit darker, making those thin spots virtually unnoticeable. Let's list the benefits for you.
- Gray hairs are masked, making you often look years younger
- Your Face becomes a whole again because your Beard has the same Colour as your hairstyle and eyebrows
- Unwanted colors are removed from your Beard
- Thin spots/open spots in your Beard are filled in by the Colour
- Beard Dye looks natural, so your surroundings often don't notice it
- Beard Dye is not expensive, and dyeing takes little time
How should I dye my Beard?
We have created a step-by-step plan so you can dye your Beard in the best way. It may seem like many steps, but trust us, after one time dyeing, you'll have it under control. Fortunately, it's not quantum physics, but it does require a bit of experience.
Choosing the right Colour Beard Dye
Here we are really going to emphasize this. Do you want all the benefits of dyeing your Beard? Then this is the most important step. Listen carefully: Black is not always your Colour! There are so many men who think 'I'll just go for the darkest', but this is where you go wrong. That artificial black 'Blackbeard Beard' will often remind you more of a Pirates of the Caribbean theme party. If you have dark Hair, choose dark brown. And only if you have truly or through Hair Dye Black dyed Hair, you choose Black.
Always choose a Colour close to your natural Colour and go max. 1 to 2 shades darker.
Patch test
Once you have received your Beard Dye, first do a patch test. This tests for any allergy or reaction. Apply a drop of Beard Dye in the crook of your knee, elbow, or behind your ear and leave it for 48 hours.
This is quite an important step because an allergy can be so severe that you might even need to go to the emergency room. If you get itching or red bumps within those 48 hours, you'll survive. But that does mean you shouldn't smear it on your Beard. No reaction? Congrats, then it's time to dye your Beard!
Prepare well
Do not clean your Beard! Sounds crazy, but the natural oils in your Beard ensure that the dye can adhere better. Then comb your Beard through so the dye can catch every hair. What is also smart is to apply a bit of petroleum jelly on the skin around your Beard. If you spill the dye, it's no problem. You can wipe it off your skin with that petroleum jelly.
Most packages provide a complete kit so you don't have to buy everything separately. Therefore, always read what is included. You will need the following items:
- Rubber gloves (otherwise your Hands will also be dyed)
- Mixing bowl (to mix the beard dye tubes)
- Color brush (to apply the Beard Dye)
- Paper towels, kitchen roll, and tissues (to immediately remove mistakes)
- An old towel around you (to prevent stains on your Apparel)
Follow the instructions on the package
Before we tell you everything here, it's important to know that each Beard Dye may have different instructions. Therefore, always read the packaging and the included instructions. It also states how long you should leave the Beard Dye in your Beard.
Mixing the tubes
In a package, you will find (almost always) 2 tubes. One is a base color, and the other is a color developer. You need to mix these 2 in the mixing bowl. Do this with your color brush. Does the dye still look very light? No problemo, it will darken after a minute. Don't be misled by the Colour.
Dyeing and applying
Well mixed? Then it's time for the real work: dyeing your Beard. Take a bit of dye from the bowl and go to work with the brush. Move the brush back and forth over your Beard. Think of it as painting a wall, but it's your Beard. Try to avoid your facial skin as much as possible; otherwise, you'll get stains, and it won't look even. Is your Beard completely covered? Let the dye soak in (as long as stated in the instructions) and set your timer.
Color check
Timer has gone off, time for the color check. Dab some paint from a few beard hairs with your cloth, kitchen roll, or tissue. Is the Colour still too light? Then apply a bit more paint to the spot where you just wiped it away and wait a little longer. Be sure to keep a close eye on it, otherwise, it will quickly become too dark.
Is your Beard the Colour you had in mind? Great, then it's time to rinse out the Beard Dye.
Rinsing
Hold your Beard under lukewarm water and rinse until the water is clear again. Is everything out? Dry your Beard with a towel. Et voila, you have a full, natural, even Beard again. Style your Beard with a nice Beard Wax and ensure a good Beard Care when you're done.
