What is a Toner? And why are Toners so important?

Wat is een toner? En waarom zijn toners zo belangrijk?

It could be that you have had a clear skincare routine for years. From cleansing & scrubbing to massaging in a Night Cream.

Applying a modern Toner ensures proper hydration of the skin with the goal: to lock in the necessary moisture that has just been applied with a Toner with a good Day Cream in the skin. A Toner not only hydrates but also has the task of calming the skin, making the Face glow, keeping it clean, and making the pores invisible.

So it is also important for you to include a Toner in your routine. Want to buy good Toner? Take a peek in our digital showcase.

What is a Toner?

A Toner is a liquid hydrator. The second step in your skincare routine. So after applying a Cleanser. Toners usually contain active acidic components. The two most important: Glycolic acid and salicylic acid (read our Skincare dictionary for a comprehensive explanation). Furthermore, modern Toners are also equipped with the right vitamins so that your skin is nourished.

Note: a modern Toner contains only good ingredients such as antioxidants and nourishing vitamins and no alcohol. This substance dries out instead.

What is the function of Toner?

Toner is primarily the finishing touch for cleansing your facial skin. All the remaining dirty residue is removed from your Face. This ensures that the pores do not get clogged and prevents a matte glow.

Today's Toners also protect the pH value of your skin. Optimal hydration of the skin so that you provide the moisture with flexible armor using our best Day Cream. Goal: the moisture does not evaporate from the skin so that your Face remains continuously hydrated.

Another advantage is that it arms your skin against harmful (weather) influences from outside. Due to the hydration, pollution is more easily deflected and does not penetrate your skin.

Is Toner suitable for all skin types?

Yes. A good Toner ensures that with an oily or average skin you remove as much excess oils and sebum as possible. With dry to normal skin, a modern Toner can ensure that irritations and red rashes can disappear.

A Toner is not just a step but an essential move to literally keep your skin in shape.

Which Toners should you not use?

In principle, there are two types of Toners on the market that you should avoid:

  • Toners with alcohol on board should never land in your Bathroom. They often contain other ingredients as well that irritate the skin.
  • Toners based on water and provided with non-natural irritating Fragrance may smell nice and seem refreshing but often cause discomfort. These Toners usually guarantee an irritated skin.

Benefits of Toner

It cleanses and nourishes the skin in one go. Besides all the aforementioned benefits, a good Toner also provides a load of antioxidants. Additionally, your skin is treated to a generous portion of soothing moisturizing ingredients. A high-end Toner thus ensures a smooth skin surface.

A good Serum can also do no harm.

Difference between hydrating vs moisturizing

A hydrator and a Moisturizer. These terms are often confused with each other. But there is indeed a difference between the two.

  • With a hydrator, you bring moisture into the facial skin. This can be done, for example, with glycerin. These types of ingredients ensure that water binds to your skin. As a result, your skin is also better able to absorb moisture.
  • A Moisturizer is often a cream that helps retain moisture in the skin through the oils present. Especially with dry or aging skin, the natural lipid (oil) barrier does not function optimally, causing the skin to lose moisture. With a Moisturizer, you can prevent this.

Tip: Apply a Moisturizer as soon as possible to the damp skin after applying the Toner. Skin cells are water creatures. Without moisture, they perish. Applying a moist Toner to your skin is the watery oxygen it needs to survive.

If you apply a good moisturizing cream immediately after applying the Toner and within a minute, you will retain the necessary moisture where it needs to be. In the skin.

Last tip: Moisture evaporates incredibly quickly. Especially in winter when it freezes. So apply both the Toner and your Day Cream in a still steaming Bathroom. You will see that it works.

Finally

If you want to keep your skin in the best possible condition, you cannot avoid using a good moisturizing Toner. Think of it as the 1.5 liters of water you need to drink every day to keep your Body running.

The facial skin has a hard time regulating itself. Especially due to external influences. Poorly functioning climate systems, (dry) climate, and pollution. With an alcohol-free Toner in your skincare routine, you arm the skin (cells) and keep your skin Fresh and hydrated. You don't just look vibrant. It also feels GREAT!
