In the four seasons we experience each year, the skin must adapt to each weather type like a chameleon. This doesn't happen without a hitch. Especially winter takes a toll. Your facial skin has quite a lot to endure.
The air is, especially when it freezes, very dry and your skin struggles with that. Therefore, we need to give our sensitive skin a helping hand to get through these dark & cold days comfortably. This calls for a good skincare routine. You don't wear a winter coat for nothing to stay warm. Do the same for your sensitive skin.
What happens to your skin in the winter?
Over the General, your skin becomes dry and flaky in the winter. This is purely due to the severe temperature fluctuations and the extremely dry air. Especially if you are regularly indoors and outdoors. Harsh cold weather alternated with 20+ degrees indoors or at the office takes its toll. Your skin reacts strongly to these intense changes.
Skin symptoms in the winter
- Tight skin
- Red skin
- Flaky skin
- (Very) dry skin
- Eczema
- Itching
- Fine lines/cracks
- Cracked/bleeding Lips
- Hypersensitivity to creams or Soaps
Due to these symptoms, your moisture-deprived skin becomes vulnerable to infections or other discomforts, and you can simply prevent this by taking care of your skin as best as possible. What can you do to keep your skin in good condition?
Switch to balm
During the winter period, you can best care for your skin with a good Face Balm that offers protection against the elements. A Face Balm often has a denser and more protective formula. In addition, a Face Balm of the right quality also contains natural ingredients that hydrate and nourish the skin.
During this period, we also recommend using a nourishing and restorative Hand Balm. It is especially important to use this product to calm and soften your cuticles and knuckles. Besides your dry Hands, these sensitive areas suffer a lot in this Season.
A good Lip Balm can be used all year round but is especially a must in the winter. This way, you protect your Lips against dryness and cold so they don't crack and bleed. Particularly painful.
Use an exfoliant instead of Scrub
In the winter, your skin is much more susceptible to pimples or other irregularities. Hence the importance of a proper Skincare routine. The Face Balm is an essential part of this. But removing dead skin cells is just as important. This can also give pimples free rein.
Chemical exfoliation is the right approach. In any case, we recommend using a good exfoliant year-round. to include in your skincare routine, but certainly also to use in the winter. Scrub with crystals that physically scrub, you might as well leave them. You only damage the sensitive winter skin with that.
By using the right exfoliant, you dissolve dead skin cells. But you also polish away other irregularities, dark spots, and grooves. Do this a maximum of 2 times a week. If you exfoliate too much, you can dry out the skin and irritation quickly lurks.
Shave in the evening
It is not advisable to Shaving in the morning during the winter period. Due to Shaving, your skin already endures a lot, and during such a shaving session, you remove the top layer of your facial skin that provides protection. If you step into the cold early in the morning after Shaving, your skin is not able to quickly rebuild that protective layer.
The result? You have a tight skin all day and suffer from irritations such as redness, cracks, and other discomforts. Therefore, it is much better to Shaving before going to bed. After Shaving, apply the best Aftershave Balm to your skin and finish with a good Night Cream. Your skin will have sufficiently recovered during the night so that you have laid the foundation for a new winter day.
Tip: For variety, make sure you also have Argan Oil at home. If you massage the skin with this 100% natural, soothing, and nourishing oil after Shaving, you will have silky soft skin the next day.
Warm water is better than hot water
In winter, you can wash the Face much better with lukewarm water. If you use hot water, you only dry out the skin. You lose the natural oils in your skin, which you desperately need to protect against the cold weather influences. With all the irritations and skin damage as a result.
Use mild cleansers
In winter, you prefer to cleanse your skin with a mild hydrating facial cleanser. Especially if you have sensitive skin. It is best to use a good Cleanser with only natural extracts like aloe vera and vitamin E.
It purifies your skin and carefully removes dirt so that the pores do not get clogged, and your skin calms and softens. With this perfect basic facial routine, you give a dull complexion and pimples no chance and ensure, along with a good Face Balm, an even skin that can withstand a winter blow.
Don't forget SPF
Even though the sun is not very strong in winter and your head will not suddenly turn into a raisin, the present UVA radiation does indeed impact your skin's health. Therefore, we recommend applying a good Sunscreen on top of your Face Balm so that your skin can withstand this too!
A quality sunscreen with a high SPF also protects you against skin aging and skin cancer.
Finally
It is very important that you Body stay well hydrated throughout the day by drinking plenty of water/herbal tea. This hydrates your body from the inside out. This is just as important as a good facial care routine in which you also use a good Toner, moisturizing Face Cream and a Face Mask.
If you have any questions, we would love to hear from you. We'll help you get started quickly!
Good luck.
