Face Care has not been exclusive to women for a long time. Fortunately, because why shouldn't we keep our skin as optimal as possible? Look, we fortunately have the advantage that our skin ages later. Additionally, it is always said that men become more handsome as they get older. But this doesn't mean we shouldn't care for aging skin.
We dare to bet that the 'grey foxes' like George Clooney, David Beckham, and Robert Downey Jr. also use an extensive Face Care. So let's delve into the details of aging skin and how best to care for it.
How do I know if I have aging skin?
To start with Face Care, it is always useful to know which Skin Type you have. Each Skin Type has its own characteristics, and so does aging skin. Do you recognize yourself in the (most) points listed below? Then you can conclude that you have aging skin.
- Wrinkles
- Crow's feet
- Thinning skin
- Dry skin
- Skin pigmentation
- Skin irritation
- Sagging skin (especially around the neck, eyelids, and cheeks)
Do these points sound very familiar to you? Then you have aging skin. Don't worry, you can do something yourself to counteract and slow down the natural process!
Why do you have aging skin?
Whether you have good genes or not, every skin ages over time. But there are quite a few factors that accelerate or stimulate this process. Let's go through them with you.
Decrease in cell renewal
As you get older, cell renewal in your Body decreases. An important body protein also decreases, namely: collagen. Collagen is incredibly important for your skin because it keeps your skin elastic, firm, and radiant and ensures that the moisture level in your skin remains balanced.
Once your collagen production decreases, your skin will become looser and less even. This results in the formation of wrinkles, grooves, etc., and your skin will start to sag more.
Stress
Stress is actually a culprit for everything, including your skin. It is scientifically proven that stress accelerates the aging process of your skin. Prolonged stress releases more radicals that want to break down your genetic Material. The cells will therefore stop dividing earlier, resulting in skin aging. Cortisol (the hormone released during stress) also attacks collagen in your skin.
Smoking and alcohol
It is General known that this lifestyle is not good for your Body. If you smoke, you ingest the substance nicotine. Nicotine is known to constrict blood vessels. This includes the blood vessels in your Face. Oxygen, nutrients, and vitamins are therefore not optimally absorbed in your Face.
Looking at alcohol, it doesn't make you happy either. Alcohol dehydrates your Body. This can also affect your collagen, causing your skin to dry out faster and form wrinkles.
UV radiation
Let's not forget this. The sun is (unfortunately) the largest cause of aging skin. UV radiation is the most harmful to your skin when it comes to skin aging. This damage to your skin is also irreversible. With a lot of sun exposure, your skin can dry out. Always protect yourself with at least an SPF factor of 30, but preferably an SPF factor of 50 for your Face.
Tips for men with aging skin
Eventually, we all have to deal with aging skin. And let's be honest, every age has its beauty. But of course, there are tips to keep your skin as young as possible for as long as possible.
- Protect your skin from the sun. As we just mentioned, UV radiation is the biggest culprit for your skin. Therefore, we recommend always applying sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun. Not only when it's sunny but also when it's cloudy. Not only in the summer but also in the fall and winter. This way, you protect your skin and prevent sun damage. So choose a Face Cream with SPF or a good Sunscreen with a high factor.
- Avoid nicotine. If you don't smoke: good for you. Otherwise, we recommend quitting. This way, your collagen won't be attacked, and you won't damage your skin's elasticity.
- Eat healthy! We can't say it often enough, but good skin radiates from the inside out. If you eat a lot of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, they will eventually end up in your skin. Proteins and fats are also an important part of healthy skin. So ensure healthy and varied food.
- Rest, routine, and sleep. The natural counterparts of stress. This way, you ensure that your skin can relax again. Sleep is incredibly important for the skin because it recovers during the period you sleep. Without the stress hormone cortisol, your collagen also remains healthy. And by now, we know how important collagen is for the skin!
- Use a firm day and Night Cream. There are, of course, a lot of creams available on the market. But for mature skin, it is important to use a cream that is specially developed for it. Almost all anti-wrinkle creams contain, for example, hyaluronic acid, which ensures proper hydration, and niacinamide keeps your skin even. Always check the ingredients and their effects.
- Try facial yoga or connective tissue massages. Yes, friends, it exists. But it has really been proven to work. With facial yoga, you train your facial muscles to keep them supple and elastic. The result? Higher collagen production in the skin of your Face. You can also do connective tissue massages yourself at home. It is a vigorous massage that specifically targets firming your skin and making fine lines disappear. It all looks quite special, but the result has left many men amazed. Try before you die.
- Drink enough water. Our skin is our largest organ. Organs consist of cells. Cells consist of water. And so the circle is complete. Water removes waste products, and that is why it is important to drink enough (about 1.5 to 2 liters of water per day) water.
- Ensure a good Face Care routine. Face Care and its steps are very important for the quality and firmness of your skin. Of course, we will explain that further below!
How to care for aging skin?
1. Cleanse with an oil-based facial cleanser
The first step in Face Care is always a good Cleansing, and this is also true for mature skin. It is important to look at the type of cleanser you should use. For mature skin, it is recommended to use a facial cleanser that is oil-based.
With an oil-based cleanser, your skin is not stripped of its natural oils and therefore will not dry out further. Always use a Cleanser that is not too harsh. Natural oils in the mild cleanser nourish the skin and hydrate dull spots. And that is exactly what you want for your skin!
- Cleanse your Face with lukewarm water
- Take a little Cleanser and gently massage it into your Face
- Massage in circular motions
- Rinse off the Cleanser with lukewarm water
- Pat your Face dry with a clean towel
2. Use a Tonic
A good Tonic (also known as Toner) provides a bit of preparation for the other products in this routine. Additionally, it restores the pH balance of your facial skin. A good Toner for mature skin will enhance your skin's elasticity and reduce fine lines.
- Put a little Tonic on a cotton pad
- Pat the cotton pad over your Face
- You can leave the Tonic on your Face
3. Use a Scrub once every 3 days
You don't need to do this daily, but it is important to keep up with it. With a mild facial scrub, you remove dead skin cells, which stimulates the skin to produce new cells. Through this cell division, your skin can better absorb the active ingredients of your skincare.
- Make sure your skin is wet
- Take some product and start gently massaging it into your Face
- Massage in circular motions from the inside out
- Wash off with lukewarm water
4. Use a Day Cream or Night Cream for men
Time to apply your Day Cream or Night Cream. It goes without saying that you should also pay attention to the ingredients and their effects. Anti-aging is the magic word you are looking for in the right day-and-night cream. You might also consider using an anti-wrinkle Serum in combination with an anti-wrinkle cream for extra hydration.
- Take your cream out of the pot or packaging with a spatula or clean Hands
- Apply the cream to your Face
- Gently massage in with circular motions
- Start in the middle and work your way out
- Avoid the skin around your Eyes
- Let the cream absorb into your skin during the day/night
5. Eye Care
This step is especially important for mature skin. The skin around the Eyes often becomes saggy and dull faster than the rest of the skin. With Face Care, the area around the Eyes is often treated because it is so delicate. Therefore, it is important to give some extra attention to your Eyes and apply an Eye Cream.
- Apply a small amount to your fingertips
- Gently dab around the eye area
- Wait until it is absorbed into your skin
6. Mask
Use a Face Mask about 2 to 3 times a week to give your skin extra hydration, refreshment, and deep Cleansing. Choose a mask that balances your moisture levels and softens wrinkles.
- Apply a thin layer on your Face (avoid your Eyes)
- Let the mask dry without touching it
- Rinse off with lukewarm water
