For women, it is natural to take good care of the hair. For men, it's often just a little styling and washing. Yet the way you handle your hair and what you put in it can have a big effect on how your hair looks. Chances are you make one of the following mistakes. It doesn't matter. We've all been guilty of them at one time or another.
1. Washing too often
We are healthy and well-groomed men and we all want to be nice and clean. So many men also wash their hair every day. This is absolutely not good for your hair. In fact, in the long run, it can cause you to suffer more hair loss. Every time you wash your hair, the greasy natural layer is removed from your hair. Your hair then lacks nutrients that keep your hair healthy and your hair will let go faster. So you will have less volume and your hair will become lifeless and dull.
Try to wash your hair every two or three days and then use a small amount of shampoo. Also, use a good conditioner weekly so that your hair gets enough nutrition to repair itself.
2. Bad shampoo
Chances are you use a shampoo that doesn't make your hair happy. You're forgiven. In drugstores, you just don't find many good shampoos for men. Many shampoos contain ingredients that are actually very bad for your hair and scalp. When buying a shampoo, try to avoid the following ingredients:
- Mineral oils (parafinum liquidum, mineral oil or petrolatum)
- SLS/SLES
- Silicones
- Parabens
- Perfume
Want a shampoo that's really completely free of all that crap? Then try the shampoo from Doers of London. The Doers of London Shampoo consists entirely of natural ingredients so it is also not harmful.
3. Blow-drying too hot
Early in the morning you want your hair dry as quickly as possible, so you put it on flame-thrower mode. Understandable but not wise. Hot blow-drying not only damages your hair but also makes it fall out faster. You've probably held a few strands of hair in your hands while styling your hair. When you warm your skin, your pores open up. Your hair follicles will shed hairs faster. Preferably blow-dry in the coldest setting and keep your distance. The same goes for showering too hot.
4. Bad hair styling products
No more big yellow jars of half a euro. Don't save too much on hair styling products. These contain many bad ingredients for your hair and scalp. Also, you will just never be able to create a great hairstyle with them. At The Alpha Men, we only select products that will do your hair good. We always passionately search for cool brands with top products. Fortunately, you really don't always have to spend a fortune for those.
5. Using buckets of hair products
Less is more men! If you cannot keep your hair in shape, chances are there is too much in it. Your hair gets too greasy and heavy. The texture is going to look unkempt. A little tip is to always start with a small fingertip. You can always add a little more but you can't just remove some when you put too much in your hair. So start with little and keep adding a little until you get your hair the way you want it.
6. Style with wet hair
Most products are not made to be combined with water. This is because almost all products are water-based. So when you put a product in wet hair it will immediately run out of your hair because it dilutes too much. This does not apply to oil-based products. But again, you will not be able to create hold or volume with wet hair. Towel dry or dry hair is really a must.
7. Using towel as a sander
There we are again in the morning. Everything has to be done as quickly as possible. You get out of the shower and run that towel over your hair like you want to start a fire. Your hair is more fragile when wet and gets stressed from this. This leaves you with lifeless hair that breaks faster. Try gently squeezing your hair with a towel and then dabbing it dry.
