The blue pomade of Reuzel in the spotlight

De blauwe pomade van Reuzel in de spotlights

Why should we put the blue pomade in the spotlight? Does the now legendary product need it? No, it doesn't. Does pomade deserve it? Absolutely! Reuzel is not just any Dutch product, just as Schorem is not just a local barbershop. Did you know that the pomade of pomade became a hype even before the product itself actually existed? Dive into the origin of Reuzel pomade and the popularity of the blue Reuzel.

Origin of Reuzel pomade

We all know the story of the barbershop Schorem and how it came to be. Thanks to Schorem, the barbering profession has exploded in the Netherlands.

Even before the pomades of Reuzel existed, Schorem was a big hype both inside and outside the Netherlands. Leen and Bertus, the founders of Schorem and pomade, wanted to create their own product that was perfect for the 20 hairstyles you can get at Schorem. However, their requirements were so specific that manufacturers couldn't produce it for Leen and Bertus. Lots of shine but not too much shine, a tin that can dent but remains resealable. They decided to try it themselves in their own kitchen. That was not a success. Apart from a big mess and a green-colored hairstyle during the testing of the homemade concoction, they achieved no results.

Another problem was that the word about a personal pomade from Schorem had already spread widely, and questions about the Reuzel were popping up everywhere. Everyone wanted to try that rugged tin with a dirty pig on it. The solution came when Leen and Bertus were called by David Raccuglia, photographer and founder of American Crew, who wanted to take photos of their shop. David Raccuglia managed to create a product that met their requirements. However, according to him, it was not wise to use the name pomade and the dirty pig on the tin. Reuzel is difficult to pronounce internationally, and a dirty pig on a tin would not be a good marketing concept.

The stubbornness and determination of Leen and Bertus is the key to their success because they still chose the name Reuzel, and as everyone knows, the dirty pig is just on the tins. It makes the product different and more interesting than other pomades. The products appeared everywhere. It has now become a million-dollar company, and more and more products are being added to the Reuzel range.

Blue Reuzel

The success of the blue Reuzel

The blue Reuzel, or actually Reuzel Blue, is the best-selling product of Reuzel but is still relatively young. When Reuzel pomade first hit the market, there were only the red and green pomades. The red one is a water-based pomade and provides a lot of shine and a medium hold. The green variant does almost the same but on an oil basis.

The red Reuzel immediately sold the best because people were looking for a pomade that easily washed out of the hair to wash is but does what it needs to do. Water-based pomades are therefore extremely popular worldwide.

The red Reuzel only lacks the hold you need for some higher hairstyles that are often worn. Schorem therefore had an extra water-based product developed that has a strong hold but also provides enough shine. That product became the blue reuzel. From its launch, it quickly became the best-selling product of Reuzel and almost every barbershop has it on their shelves.

Your hair does not sag during the day and you can wash it out with a little water. The scent is also pleasant, reminiscent of a cologne with hints of woody and vanilla. You can hardly go wrong with the blue reuzel. It is the best all-rounder of the entire range and therefore probably also the most popular.

The blue reuzel often appears in the top lists alongside products from Suavecito and Layrite. These are brands that are praised for their pomade based on water. The men of Schorem only want the best due to their love for the craft. Even a manufacturer who couldn't make their product didn't stop them from pursuing their idea for a good pomade. The blue reuzel is the cherry on top.
