Pre Shave: the remedy against shaving irritation

Pre Shave: het middel tegen scheerirritatie

Besides wanting to trim your hairs with Shaving, the focus is mainly on the comfortable feeling you want to maintain. A smooth result and especially no discomfort afterwards. That is often a challenge, or it can always be just a bit better. By now, we know that preparation is essential to achieve a good result. You want to soften the hairs, not dry out the skin, and that often depends on good preparation.

Nowadays, that preparation is in one product, the pre shave. It is one of the lesser-known Shaving Products. Preshave is considered the ultimate prevention for irritation. This Hair Gel or oil simply provides the optimal conditions for a good shave. Especially when you have heavy Beard Growth or dry skin, this is a very good solution.

What does a Pre shave do?

Pre shaves work as an extra protective layer before and during the Shaving. Your skin is well protected during the Shaving. Additionally, many Shaving Products in combination with the Shaving itself dry out the skin, and of course, we don't want that. By using pre shaves, you hydrate the skin before the Shaving and protect your skin from potentially drying out due to the use of a Shaving Foam. The pre shave also makes your hairs extra soft, making them easier to shave off. Using a pre shave is incredibly easy and quick.

How do you use a pre shave?

You apply pre shaves by spreading them on your hand and applying them to the stubble of your Beard before the Shaving. It doesn't matter whether it's oil or cream, a pre shave comes in different forms. Massage it evenly and gently over your Beard. You might think you need to rinse this off, but that's not the intention. The Shaving Soap or Shaving Cream you use is then simply applied over the pre shave. A razor can damage the skin or cause irritation. By taking good care of and protecting the skin beforehand and using a good Shaving Gel, you prevent this.

What different pre shaves are there?

You have pre shaves in different forms where the substance is the biggest difference. Often there is a choice between an oil, cream, or Hair Gel. Ultimately, they all do approximately the same thing. An oil or cream will create a slightly smoother protective layer than a Hair Gel, but a Hair Gel may have more cooling or soothing properties, for example.
