Gua Sha
Gua Sha
Gua Sha, an ancient Chinese beauty practice, has gained popularity worldwide in recent years as an effective method for radiant and healthy skin. This traditional technique uses a flat, often oval-shaped piece of jade or rose quartz to massage the facial skin and stimulate blood circulation. Let's delve deeper into the steps to apply a Gua Sha ritual to your face.
What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha, literally translated as "scraping of toxins," is a technique that has its origins in traditional Chinese medicine. It is used to promote blood circulation, restore energy balance and reduce tension in the muscles. When applied to the face, Gua Sha not only helps reduce puffiness and detoxify the skin, but it also promotes a youthful appearance by stimulating collagen production.
How to use Gua Sha on your face
Step 1: Cleanse your face
Start with clean, makeup-free skin to achieve the best results. Use a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and excess oils.
Step 2: Apply a facial oil
Apply a few drops of facial oil to your face to help the Gua Sha glide smoothly over the skin. Choose an oil that is suitable for your skin type.
Step 3: Choose the right angle
Hold the Gua Sha tool at about a 15 degree angle to your skin. Always start from the center of your face and work outwards.
Step 4: Gliding movements
Use gentle but firm gliding movements over your skin. Follow the natural contours of your face and hold the tool flat against your skin for optimal results.
Step 5: Focus on pressure points
Pay extra attention to pressure points such as your jawline, cheekbones and forehead. Apply light pressure and repeat each movement 5-10 times.
Step 6: Work from the inside out
Continue working from the center outward to promote the release of toxins and reduce swelling.
Step 7: Finish with neck
Extend the ritual to your neck for overall skin care.
