How do you care for a new tattoo?

Hoe verzorg je een nieuwe tattoo?

It was planned for some time, putting a new tattoo. The needle has done its job and before you know it you will be satisfied again with your new personal artwork. But it is not ready yet. If you want your tattoo to look good, then it is up to you to take care of it as well as possible. But how do you actually do that?

Listen to the advice of your tattoo artist

The aftercare actually starts when you are still with your tattoo artist. This will explain after putting how you can best take care of your tattoo. This way it can differ in terms of place and size when you can shower again and when you can remove the foil from your tattoo. They are of course experts in tattoo care.

Always ask your tattoo artist about their preference in terms of Tattoo Care. Most swear by a certain cream for tattoo care. In some cases you get a paper with instructions, so that you cannot go wrong.

The first day

Taking care of your tattoo the first days is the most important thing. And that of course starts with day 1. Once your foil can get rid of your tattoo, it is very important to clean your tattoo well. You wash your tattoo to remove instruments, wound fluid and perhaps blood from your tattoo. If you don't do this, large crusts can come on your tattoo. And you probably understand it: the thicker the crust, the more ink it will suck, the more vague your tattoo will become. So wash your tattoo at least twice a day in the beginning.

Wash your tattoo in the right way

With a fresh tattoo, care is the most important thing. First wash your hands thoroughly with hand soap Or disinfecting hand gel. But then your tattoo wet with lukewarm water. Use absolutely no hot water! Your pores are open and due to the heat the ink will be worked out in no time. Your tattoo will fade if you use too hot water. If you want to wash your tattoo in the shower, it is also important not to put the jet on your tattoo directly. The pressure can also have a lot of influence on recovery.

Grab good antibacterial soap and beat this in your hands until you have a lot of soap/foam. Apply this soap to your wet tattoo and massage this without pressure with circular movements. Carefully rinse your tattoo and make sure that there is no soap behind it. Dry the spot with a dry cloth that is clean and not fluors. Make sure you don't wipe, but quietly dept. Of course you can always choose to let your tattoo dry in the air.

Take care of your tattoo

How to take care of a tattoo is a whole operation. Washing has happened. The instruments, blood and wound fluid is rinsed from your fresh tattoo and your tattoo is quietly dragged. However, after this subtle operation it is not yet ready. It's time to rub your tattoo. Do this with a good ointment that is recommended by your tattoo artist, do not walk yourself with Vaseline or residual coconut fat that you happen to find in your kitchen cupboard.

Apply a thin layer of the tattoo cream and massage it gently. Do not use a thick layer. This is not only superfluous, but also a harmful one. Your tattoo cannot breathe that way and therefore not heal well. This way you get bumps or pimples and therefore your tattoo will become a lot more vague than usual.

The first weeks

The first tension is gone. You are still alive and you have not lost any limbs in the fight. Your tattoo seems to heal well so you don't have to lubricate anymore. True or False? False! Don't be seduced by the good looks of your tattoo. This must be cared for longer than that it turns out to be late.

Then of course the question "how long your tattoo is rubbing?" If there are no more crusts visible, but you can continue to lubricate sheets. Your tattoo will dry out and fade differently. Therefore, at least keep a thin layer of cream on your tattoo every day until it is completely healed. So completely healed is if there is no more 1 sheet to be spotted. This is usually after about 4 weeks.

What should I avoid?

A lot. When taking care of your new tattoo you have to leave certain fun things for what they are. We will list a list for you.

  • Sunlight
  • Swimming (so the swimming pool, a sea, lake, river, etc.)
  • Hug with your pets
  • The sauna, Turkish steam bath, etc.
  • The tanning bed
  • Intensively exercise
  • Sit on your tattoo with unwashed hands
  • Let others sit on your tattoo
  • Do not use care (such as makeup, body lotion, etc.) on the site of your tattoo

If you will be kind to the artwork on your skin, it will also be kind to you. Because let's be honest, you didn't put it so that it can fade and look like a medieval disease in no time. Treat your tattoo as art and wear it with pride!
