This shaving belt by Herold from Solingen is made of cowhide leather and synthetic canvas and is used for polishing open razors.
The front is made of robust cowhide and the back is made of synthetic canvas. The canvas side is used to heat the blade for sharpening.
This shaving belt is used in combination with yellow and white shaving belt paste. To maintain the shaving belt, the leather part is rubbed with the yellow shaving belt paste and the back of the canvas with the white shaving belt paste. This keeps the shaving belt in perfect condition.

Aim :
1. Attach your shaving belt to a hook with one end.
2. Take the other end in your hand and tighten it.
3. Lay the blade completely flat on the canvas side of the shaving belt.
4. Bring the blade towards you, spine of the blade first, then the sharp side of the blade. Then move the knife away from you.
5. Repeat this procedure 15 times, applying as little pressure as possible to the blade.
Polishing:
1. Lay the blade completely flat on the leather side of the shaving belt.
2. Bring the knife towards you, the back of the knife first and then the sharp side of the knife. Then move the knife away from you.
3. Repeat this procedure 20 times, using as little pressure as possible on the blade.
