Summer. Finally. Going outside and strolling! In the convertible with the roof resting on the luggage compartment, fashionably dressed and on flip-flops to your favorite beach bar. Paal 17 has the most exclusive cocktails and you just happen to have set your sights on them.
You can finally design your life a bit more Miami. It was about time. The trendy outfit is, of course, not complete without a refined scent. For the necessary cachet. Joie de vivre! However, there are a number of things to keep in mind during the (hot) summer months if you want to enjoy your carefully selected Fragrance for a long time. Because you should know: heat, sun rays, and Fragrance (bottles) do not go well together.
Therefore, it's high time to serve you some tips so that you can enjoy your favorite fragrances for a longer time during the warmest months of the year.
How to best protect your Fragrance from the sun and heat
Fragrance thrives best in a cool environment. Preferably in a space where it doesn't get above 15 degrees Celsius. Heat affects the behavior and structure of the scent. Just like with wine. Due to heat, a Fragrance can quickly become outdated. Spoil even.
Heating and/or fluctuating temperatures also affect the quality of the scent. It can change substantially when a bottle is exposed to high temperatures. Windowsills are NO GO AREAS. Because: excessive sun & heat.
The Bathroom is also a forbidden zone. Far too warm and humid. A very bad combo. If you do want to enjoy your perfumes for a longer time, here are a few clear options.
A reasonably good place is a closed cabinet where the Fragrance stands in the dark and does not absorb (in)direct sunlight. A first-class place to store your Fragrances in the summer is the refrigerator. This way, they remain longer-lasting and it's nice to spray on a cooling scent on a warm day. Crisp!
The scent bottles brotherly in the fridge next to your cherished bottles of white beer, vanilla custard, and the half-full milk. Check.
That’ll do the trick.
Spray Fragrance directly after showering.
After taking a warm/hot shower, the pores are open, and that is the right moment to spray the Fragrance on strategic places (we'll get back to that shortly). Of course, only after you have just dried off. The scent molecules then penetrate the skin better so that it simply evaporates less quickly and the intensity of the scent lasts longer.
Spray Fragrance on tactical places
We just described it, Fragrance and sun do not go well together. This can change the composition and make the Fragrance smell completely different. Also, the scent can quickly evaporate due to the influence of the sun.
Sun rays can also have an even more stubborn effect when you are sensitive or allergic to a combination of Fragrance, UV-A, and sunlight. This can even cause rashes and/or pigment spots. Therefore, it is highly recommended to spray the Fragrance on tactical spots. For example, behind the ears (when you have longer Hair), behind the neck, knee hollows, the chest, or on the ankles.
Rashes or spots on the skin
Unfortunately, it can happen that due to the spraying of Fragrance and the combination of sunlight, you still suffer from spots or skin discoloration. Compounds that make your skin more sensitive to UV-A radiation are furocoumarins. This substance is usually found in (Citrus) extracts used in Shampoos, soap products, aftershave & perfumes.
If you encounter this physical misfortune, you can also choose to spray the Fragrance on a piece of clothing. Or at least on areas of the skin where the sun has no access. What you can also do is apply a bit of petroleum jelly on the skin where you spray the Fragrance. A fragrance-free lotion can also be a safe choice and provide sufficient protection.
An advantage of applying petroleum jelly before spraying the Fragrance is that the scent stays on (much) longer. Splendid!
Last tip from The Alpha Boys: make sure not to spray heavy 'woody' Fragrances during this summer time but opt for crispy fresh variants.
