A moisturizing cream is the literal translation of a Moisturizer, a word we often encounter when it comes to taking care of your Face. But what exactly is a Moisturizer and how do you choose the right Moisturizer in the jungle of Skincare? Put on your expedition outfit, because today we're diving into that jungle.
What is a Moisturizer and what does it do?
It's no fun to have a tight, itchy, red skin. Nor do you get particularly happy with skin with acne, impurities, or an oily shine. Fortunately, you don't have to accept your fate as it is, because a Moisturizer can help you well in these areas. A moisturizing cream ensures that your skin is well hydrated, and this is precisely necessary for having healthy skin. When your skin is well hydrated, it will be better protected against external influences. The better your skin can retain moisture, the less you will suffer from all the irritations that skin can give.
A Moisturizer comes in many different forms, sizes, and textures. It can be a Day Cream, Night Cream, or Serum. It is mainly about the function: moisturizing. And a lot of it! Your skin will immediately indicate whether you have picked the right Moisturizer. Your skin will then look healthier, younger, fuller, and clearer. We also call this the “moisturizing cream effect.” You must be sure to choose a Moisturizer that suits your Skin Type, otherwise, it is, of course, no match made in heaven. Therefore, first, check which Skin Type you have.
Moisturizer for dry skin
Your skin can become tight, flaky, Red, and you may even suffer from eczema. Your dry skin screams for one thing: hydration! A moisturizing cream can also be the solution for all your skin problems. Always look for a nice rich Moisturizer that can penetrate deeply into your skin. The magic words? Shea butter, coconut oil, jojoba oil, etc. Hyaluronic acid and glycerin are also ingredients to filter for, as these are real moisturizers.
Moisturizer for oily skin
You probably know it. A shiny, oily skin after a few hours and you are always easily prone to impurities. Also not exactly a joy. And now we often hear “but my skin is already too oily, so I'm not going to moisturize it?” Wrong! An oily skin is even the result of an oily Skin Type combined with a moisture-poor skin condition. Therefore, it is just as important to hydrate oily skin in the right way. Besides oily moisturizers, you also have water-based moisturizers that are specially developed for oily skin. So never choose the oily moisturizers, but fats can be included in your Moisturizer. For example, look at linoleic acid, an oil that has already proven itself for oily skin.
Moisturizer for sensitive skin
With sensitive Skin Type, your skin will immediately indicate whether it appreciates something or not. Your skin quickly reacts to substances and can become irritated. Your skin may not react well to certain essential oils, such as Citrus or cinnamon. Fortunately, there are moisturizers developed especially for this Skin Type! So hydrate: yes. Fragrance, colorants, etc.: no. Prefer a natural Moisturizer. For this Skin Type, ingredients like niacinamide, panthenol, vitamin C, vitamin E, and allantoin are effective substances that work well. Always make sure you choose a Moisturizer for sensitive skin.
Moisturizer for combination or normal skin
May we congratulate you on the fact that your skin has few problems? Great, because this is the Skin Type that is the nicest to have! However, even your skin can (slightly) dry out, so a Moisturizer is always a nice boost.
When you have combination Skin Type, different parts of your Face react differently than other parts. For example, your T-zone (your Nose and forehead) may react differently than your cheeks and chin to different creams. You can choose two different moisturizers and use them on different areas. You can also choose one Moisturizer for your entire Face, in which case look for ingredients like calendula, chamomile, witch hazel, lemon balm, etc. These ingredients work antibacterial, brightening, pore-refining, and will regulate your sebum production.
What is the best moisturizing cream for men?
The best Moisturizer depends entirely on your Skin Type. We strongly advise against using a Moisturizer for dry skin if you have oily skin. Also, always consider your own preferences. There are vegan moisturizers, natural moisturizers, etc. Read the description carefully and check the ingredients list!
