If you let them grow long enough you could "comb them back" so it looked like you still had a big head of hair. Just kidding.
It didn't used to matter much either. Knots out of sleeves and heroes who literally worked up a sweat. Only on Sunday mornings was the face mowed and that was it. Those islands of wisps of hair above the eyes were just part of the job. But: how different it is now. In addition to looking impeccable, having the right haircut, a fresh shave or a regal beard, eyebrows now play a significant role in your overall appearance. They are in your face! But how exactly. Less pain? Heat or cool the eyebrows first!
If you want to start tweezing the eyebrows as comfortably as possible without tears coming into your eyes, it is advisable to first warm the hair strips thoroughly with a hot shower or massage them with a warm moist towel. This causes the pores to open up, making hair removal feel less painful. Another way of "numbing" is to use ice. Obviously not with a sticky Magnum or with the support of your friends Ben & Jerry's. Nein. A cracking ice cube will do. If you rub your eyebrows with this you numb the hair follicles making it a little more comfortable to use tweezers to remove the unwilling hairs.
Look, it's never going to be fun but if the result stands you'll still be a happy man!
Measuring = Knowing
Before tackling the eyebrows, it is wise (and convenient) to measure exactly how the lines of your eyebrows run. Check with a ruler, wire or pencil between the nostrils to next to the point between the eyebrows. The skin in between may be depilated. With den tweezers.
Combing and trimming eyebrows
Before tweezing, it is extremely effective to start with a small pair of scissors and a comb. A mascara brush - borrow it from your better half for convenience - works best. Unless of course you have your own cosmetic brush. That's possible, of course. With this tiny instrument, comb out the unwilling hairs above or below the line of the eyebrow. Then it is easy to cut them away with a small pair of scissors above the skin. When done in front of the mirror, this is a fairly easy exercise. You'll see that when you get a knack for this this is a piece of cake.
Bonus: the hairs you cut away don't need to be removed again. Profit!
Properly tweezing eyebrows
Well. Men and tweezing. The ladies have it down to an art. Is almost woven into their DNA and we have yet to get this noble ART of properly tweezing into those little hands. But practice makes for tight strokes. When the pores are open after heating, it is important to use good tweezers. Sharpness is key. Comfortable is different but if the ladies can banish pain, we're certainly not going to riot over this!
Pull out the hairs growing in the direction they are growing with the tweezers. In fact, this way it will be a little less painful. Use clean and sharp tweezers when doing this. Make sure to grab the hair as close to the root as possible. C'est tout! Oh yes, of course you can also use a trimmer to trim the hair but then you run the risk of suddenly cutting away too many hairs. Or that no eyebrows are visible at all. That does not look good. For the viewer it would look as if you had stepped out of a UFO, given the pitying expression you would emit. In addition, it takes all the shape out of the eyebrow that should accentuate your face.
